About Us
The National Centre for Technology in Education (NCTE) was established under the auspices of the Department of Education and Science in 1998.

As the Government's agency on the use of information and communications technology (ICT) in education, it plays a central role in helping to maximise the benefits for learners and teachers in using ICT.

As part of its core special needs activities, the NCTE managed the Laptops Initiative, the project on which this website, ‘Learning from the Laptops Initiative’ is based.

The Laptops Initiative was a nationwide ICT-in-education initiative aimed at identifying how laptop computers could best be used to support students with dyslexia or other reading and writing difficulties in a manner that facilitates learning, and access to learning, in an inclusive environment. It was announced in December 2000 by the Minister for Education and Science.

If you would like to contact us regarding any issue on ‘Learning from the Laptops Initiative’ website, please use our ‘Contact Us’ facility.  Your feedback is most welcome.

The NCTE is based at Dublin City University, Glasnevin, Dublin 9.
